Naked nails + favourite nail treatments.

Hey there!

I thought maybe someone out there was interested in knowing which nail products I use in a regular basis, that proved to work for me and could work for you aswell.

First off, here's a picture of my bare nails. I confess I took the picture in a moment in which I had little staining and the overall look of 'em was healthy, but I also need to say I had major staining problems in the past. The thing is I love me some blue / green colors; the big fat staining ones, you know? Added to this, I didn't use any base for several years (shame on me!), so after moving in this new flat in August, process due to which my nails sucked big time and broke repeatedly, I faced the fact that my nailies needed some heavy pampering and a healthy maintenance regime.

I have now tried many different products and finally settled in a handful of them. From left to right, the products that I reach for every time I change my manicure are:
- Rituals Hammam Mint exfoliating body scrub. This smells deliciously fresh and exfoliates the skin of my hands while hydrating them.

- Douglas Nail Butter. I bought in without paying much attention to what it was, and I am very pleased with its effects. It nourishes the nail and keeps it flexible and healthy and smells like a candy store. It's not meant to be quickly absorbed, so I gently rub it on my nails while watching a movie. Meanwhile my nails have also some time to breathe, and that can only do them good.

- The Body Shop Hemp Hand Cream. Amazing. This thing does miracles with dry skin and preventing skin dryness. It's unctuous, so you may want to use it before going to bed or when you have a moment for yourself. It does not smell especially good (it has a natural herbal scent to it) but is so worth it.

- Hacendado Cuticle Cream. I am afraid this is only available in Spain, it smells great and smoothes my cuticles quite well.

- Essie All in One Base. It's supposed to provide vitamins and calcium to the nail while protecting it, and it really does prevent them from staining. It dries super fast. Perfect underwear.

Do you use any of those products or have you ever tried them? If so, what is your impression? I'm also curious about what products do you personally recommend; any tips to share?

  1. Oh I think I will try the Body Shop handcream then. ^.^ It is indeed important to take good care of your nails and hands especially in the winter time. My nails look actually like yours. A hint of orange but for the amount of nail polishes that I use I think that's totally ok. Nice post, thanks for sharing ^.^

    2. Oh I am so sorry >//< I wanted to write it in english as well but then I was too lazy and there are already some reviews for this lipstick in english but hardly ones in german :(
I just babble how much I love this new lippie that I got from my brother for Xmas, compared it with mac's russian red and that I have a red-obsession recently (especially when it comes to lipsticks). And that I will post a new nail art design 2morrow ^.^

Thank you for still commenting though. Means a lot to me ♥

  2. Oh wow, you totally made me want to go and give my hands a bubble bath...
I have never heard of any of these products i'm afraid (except for Essie) but they really do look promising and your nails look amazing!!!
I don't really have a very organized routine but my favorite products are The Nail Junkie's Cutie Balm and Burt Bees Hand Salve. Both products come in a rather small package so I have plenty of them at any corner of my house and office! Whenever I have a few seconds - I put some on. The Cutie balm on my cuticles (and elbows) and after that has been absorbed to the most part - I use the Hand Salve. Both products are extremely moisture, maybe even a bit oily but my hands are so dry, especially in the winter time, that after less then one minute I can hardly remember I had anything out on them...

    1. That's great, I would love to try TNJ's cutie balm because I've read great things about it in your blog, actually!

  3. My nail regimen is quite similar to yours, in that I use a scrub for exfoliating, tons of lotions to moisturize, and a base coat before every mani. The most important step for me is the moisturizing. I apply lotion for my whole hands + body butter onto my nails (whether it's painted or not) after every hand wash. It keeps my hands moisturized and my nails strong. :-)

    1. Yes, I find cleaning my hands with soap dries them A LOT! So I always have a hand lotion to compensate, sort of! Actually, if I had to pick only one product it would be the hand cream. It's THE thing.

  6. Nice post! I haven't tried any of these. I'm allergic to hemp, unfortunately. Lately I've been using plain olive oil on my hands.

    1. Ahhh allergic to hemp! And how did you learnt this? :p
Plain olive oil must work great, but I'd feel a lot like cooking... in Spain that's what we use with everything. Do you prefer it to hand cream?

  8. I'm very loyal to OPI Nail Envy as my base. I really notice a difference when I stop using it! Once a week I ususally use Orly Cutique on my cuticles and just push them back a bit with my thumb nail.

I'm also slightly addicted to hand cream. I have five different kinds sitting on my desk at work and I like to moisturise whenever I'm on hold on the phone! And I use Lucas' Papaw Ointment, which is a bit of a cult favourite here in Australia, on my cuticles! It's also a great lip balm!
