Mish Mash Challenge - Book. Fight Club Manicure!

Hello there!

This week's prompt of the Mish Mash Challenge (book) had me thinking a lot. I can be the impersonation of contradiction at times, and so when I think of my favourite books I see Jane Austen's work (except for Downtown Abbey) and Chuck Palahniuk's Fight Club. I love how both, in different styles, deepen in the study of human nature and behavior.

But we all know Austen's style: neverending rambles and paragraphs. Even if I have Persuasion's pages highlighted everywhere I couldn't narrow it down to 4 meaningful words. So I moved to my trusted Fight Club; I love how random his writing can seem, and how metaphorical yet direct Palahniuk can be.

I took my inspiration from a feeling that I know from my rendez-vous with Insomnia late at night... It goes like this:

"I tagged him because the insomnia was on again, and I was in a mood to destroy something beautiful".
 - Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club.
I had this exact same urge on my worse encounters with insomnia, I was so angry and mad at the world that I entered suicidal mode (not literally). I was ready to blow up everything that mattered because I was exhausted and could not understand my disability to fall asleep. "For years now, I've wanted to fall asleep. The sort of slipping off, the giving up, the falling part of sleep". It's simply genius.

So that's that :) I used Gosh Silver as a base and painted the words with red acrylic paint over a thick coat of clear nail polish that I cut off and "glued" to my nails: quick home-made decals! The drops were painted directly on my nails with acrylics.

Have a nice week & try not to destroy beautiful things...

Mix 'n Match

Heeeeeellow,

Today I am showing you the mani I've been rocking all this weekend, of which I can't help but be a little proud of. I had my afternoon off on Friday and unvoluntarily dedicated most of it to doing my nails. Seriously, I think I've never spent so many time on nail art EVER, and it was quite a lot of fun! I should do it more often. Take a look:
So I took a look at my inspiration archive and could not make my mind on one single design so... I picked five of them and made some sort of mix and match with them! I need to credit The Daily Nail for the index design, it's totally hers; it's so cool but time-consuming... If you try it out (you should!) as part of a manicure I totally recommend to start with it, because you'll need to wait some time between stages, so you can proceed with the rest of the manicure while building this design up.

I had a party on Friday night and some people were like: "what?! YOU did that?!" [re-thinking about it I'd answer "yeah, I can do more than procedural writs, awesome right?"] and "nah, those nails aren't yours"; even my mother felt the urge to take my hands on picture this morning. It feels daaaaaamn nice! If I was a cat right now, I'd purr badly.

Sadly, I have to take them off because tomorrow is Monday already *sobs* so I needed to immortalize them (sort of) in my little bloggy :) Hope you like them!

Chevron silver tips

Haaai!

How are you all doing? For once, I am going to say "it is Thursday already" with a *sad voice* My holidays are shrinking little by little, I still have three entire days ahead of me and I am starting to freak out. Boy, when I say I am versatile I wonder if I don't mean just dumb. But versatile sounds better.
I prayed to go back to the Criminal Law Department for the past six months and now I am a little fearful. Just like when you look at a precipice: you want to look down and at the same time you're scared to. I want to work there, but I am not sure to fulfill the expectations of my boss. But hey, I can't fear a battle that hasn't started yet. And a friend of mine says: be a warrior. I will be an amazon.

That is the mani I wore to work on my last week in the Business Law Department. Yeah, just like that. Don't give me much credit though, the big bosses were all on holidays, I could therefore relax a little bit.
This is two coats of my beloved Catrice Heavy Metalilac (I can't have enough of that) and some chevrons taped with Gosh Silver. I had to attempt for this mani twice; the first time I ripped off half my base coat (an Essence I'll swatch later) - rather frustrating; I had applied it the day before and went all confident to enhance it. FAIL. It happened again since, and I am starting to wonder if my tape is not super strong or something. Since when in a battle of Polish vs. Tape does the Tape win?! I feel like I have missed something...

Take care.

Sponged silver tips

Hey!

I wanted to do something fun for my night out, with a bit of wow but still keeping it simple, so this is what I came up with:

I kept Sally Hansen Pacific Blue as an electric base, and sponged the tips with Gosh Silver, which really popped out!

It was my second attempt at sponging, and I found out that using a foil polish such as Silver is much much easier than sponging cremes. The gradient built up pretty much on its own, and I escaped the whole "damn, I don't have the perfect colour for the gradient to be neat". 2 colours, problem solved.

Mysteriously, you never have all the polishes you think you need when you want to do an ombre manicure or a smooth gradient with different tones. And the lacking colour is ALWAYS the fella that should go right in the middle... *sigh*
Remember this whenever you need an excuse to buy more polish!

At the end of the day my only victory was my manicure, which received several compliments ;) I got lost in something ultra sweet with more degrees than it appeared at first, which led me home far too early. Oh well.

Stay tuned :)
