Mish Mash Challenge - Book. Fight Club Manicure!

Hello there!

This week's prompt of the Mish Mash Challenge (book) had me thinking a lot. I can be the impersonation of contradiction at times, and so when I think of my favourite books I see Jane Austen's work (except for Downtown Abbey) and Chuck Palahniuk's Fight Club. I love how both, in different styles, deepen in the study of human nature and behavior.

But we all know Austen's style: neverending rambles and paragraphs. Even if I have Persuasion's pages highlighted everywhere I couldn't narrow it down to 4 meaningful words. So I moved to my trusted Fight Club; I love how random his writing can seem, and how metaphorical yet direct Palahniuk can be.

I took my inspiration from a feeling that I know from my rendez-vous with Insomnia late at night... It goes like this:

"I tagged him because the insomnia was on again, and I was in a mood to destroy something beautiful".
 - Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club.
I had this exact same urge on my worse encounters with insomnia, I was so angry and mad at the world that I entered suicidal mode (not literally). I was ready to blow up everything that mattered because I was exhausted and could not understand my disability to fall asleep. "For years now, I've wanted to fall asleep. The sort of slipping off, the giving up, the falling part of sleep". It's simply genius.

So that's that :) I used Gosh Silver as a base and painted the words with red acrylic paint over a thick coat of clear nail polish that I cut off and "glued" to my nails: quick home-made decals! The drops were painted directly on my nails with acrylics.

Have a nice week & try not to destroy beautiful things...

M.

  2. I don't even know where to begin with..
Your inspiration - LOVE! I really have to read more Jane Austem books. Love how you narrowed it down and these three words are deep, cool and leave room for interpretation. I'm speechless.
Also, I didn't knew how well silver and red could go. Really nice! You did a great job in drawing the letters, I first thought they're nail stickers. haha
This mani would be perfect for Halloween as well.
Oh btw, does your beautiful snake have a name yet?

    1. Hey Anhy! You should give a go to Austen! Regarding Fight Club, it was a pretty difficult pick, but I am happy with the result :)
And no... I can't find her an appropriate name! I am starting to freak out, but the name is quite an important thing so I'd rather take my time :)

  5. It's official - you rock! ;)
Super awesome mani and great choice! Although I don't knwo which I like most: the book or the movie ;) And, as an insomniac, I must say I never had that urge - what i mostly get is the 'you're a bleeding idiot, you are' feeling towards myself hahaha - overworking brain, that's what
Anyways, since you also like Jane Austen (and none of the fast-paced zombies - know that one already) try googling «Pride and Prejudice and Zombies» - something tells me you'll like what you'll find **

    1. Hahahaha! Mina, thank you! :D If I had to choose I'd probably pick the book, but the movie is amazing too! It's a hard one!
Well yeah, insomnia gets to everybody differently; the thing is it really gets to us deep down!
I had heard of that zombie version and I need to get my hands on it! Somehow I forgot, but thank you a lot for reminding me! I am sure it's a great read! :D

  10. I love Chuck Palahniuk's books! I have never heard of this author before meeting my boyfriend, but when I started reading his books I couldn't stop. Fight Club is not my favourite one (I prefer Lullaby), but it's a GREAT book and I love how you interpretated it with this manicure. ^_^

  15. Hey, question for you. Are you a lawyer? I'm a fellow nail blogger who was just looking at your post where you ask about whether to wear unnatural hair colors and whatnot. You mentioned encouraging lawyer-client confidentiality. I'm going to be 23 and in law school right now. Just curious if I've found another nail-addict lawyer-type like myself!

  16. What a great technique to use to do the words--much easier to re-do if they get messed up than doing directly on the nail (and I know I'd mess up).

  17. That's gorgeous silver right there. Erm, just wondering.. were the red letterings suppose to destroy the beauty of silver polish? Because... I think by destroying something beautiful, you created something beautiful! :D Love this simple yet effectively strong manicure! I think you totally conveyed the frustrations of insomnia really well here :) Great inspiration!
